Lot 627 French Model 1882 Officer's Sword

French Model 1882 Officer's Sword, with knot. The 33.5'' blade is oval in shape with a single narrow fuller. There are markings at the ricasso area of ''BALP St. Etienne'', and on the reverse ''Manf. Armees de Chatillerault Off. d Inf. Mde 1882 E''. Condition is good, with age graying and darkening, but no pitting, and nickel-plated four-bar guard and hilt fittings. Horn grip retains all its triple wire wrapping showing a small crack at top. Leather sword knot shows age and cracking. Steel scabbard has remnants of nickel plating, but most all has disappeared. The surface has a dark rust patina overall. Overall is 40.5''. Est.: $200-$400.
