Antique American Halfstock Percussion Fowler, NVSN, 12 ga., 37'' part octagonal-part round barrel mounted with a tiny German silver post front and no rear sight; beveled iron lockplate with long rear teat is marked ''Mabson'' (the rest illegible but likely imported from Mabson & Lebron of Birmingham, England); brass furniture including diamond-shaped lock bolt escutcheons on left side, engraved triggerguard with fancy pineapple front and long rear tang, buttplate, three under-barrel ramrod ferrules (top 2 are iron), nosecap, and single barrel wedge escutcheon; artificially striped varnished walnut stock with carving where comb meets wrist; button-tip steel ramrod. Mfg'd 1850s-60s. Condition is good, the barrel showing a deep dark-brown aged patina with heavy pitting at breech/nipple area, the lockplate pitted with markings mostly obscured; brass with a dark age patina. Stock is sound showing nicks and scratches from age and use, two 1-2'' cracks at butt, but is overall smooth with much artificial striping remaining and nice color.
