Remington Rolling Block Military Single Shot Carbine, NVSN, .44 CF cal., 20.5'' round barrel with dovetailed blade front sight and short single-leaf rear sight; large No. 1 action is marked on upper tang ''Remington's Ilion, NY U.S.A.'' over four patent dates in two lines; steel furniture including triggerguard, buttplate, single barrel band with integral sling swivel, and sling swivel mounted under buttstock; oil-finished walnut forend and buttstock. Mfg'd 1867-88, originally with blued barrel and case hardened finishes. Condition is very good, the barrel with a deep brown patina and scattered light roughness, the balance a smooth gunmetal gray-brown. Stocks show minor age and use wear but smooth and sound with perhaps a later coat of varnish. Action is sure and smooth; bore is shiny with deep rifling. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
