U.S. Ames Model 1832 Artillery Short Sword, 18.75'' blade, 24.75'' overall, scalloped brass handle with ''(American Eagle/Shield/Arrows'' on each side of the pommel. Brass guard is marked in italic ''WAT''. Blade is marked ''US / 184? / NWP''; opposite side with an ''(American Eagle)'', rn but visible. With a magnifier you can make out part of ''N.P. AMES / CABOTVILLE''. No scabbard. In good overall antique condition, with the handle grading higher than the blade which is dark and shows general light to medium pitting with a rounded tip and intermittent small nicks to the cutting edges; maker's marks are partially visible. Handle shows moderate toning and normal small surface dents, etc. Est.: $300-$600.
