Antique German Model 1879 Reichsrevolver Single Action ''Cavalry'' Large Frame Cartridge Revolver, dated 1881, with holster, #2312, 10.6x25mm (.44 Russian) CF cal., 7'' round-to-octagonal barrel with cannon-turned muzzle marked ''10.55'' and ''2312'' on left side, and surmounted with a tall integral blade front sight; fluted round cylinder with chambers numbered 1 through 6 between flutes; frame with serial number in two places on left side, along with ''1881'' and ''S&S'' (Spangenberg & Sauer), ''V.C.S.'' (V.C. Schilling) and ''CGH'' (C.G. Haenel) over ''Suhl'' within an oval; two-piece varnished hardwood grips; large lanyard ring at butt; butt is marked ''15'' (overstamped ''30'') ''A.T.'' and ''2.70.'' Originally blued finish with case hardened hammer, trigger and cylinder pin. All visible serial numbers match. Condition is very good+, showing an even, smooth overall bluish-brown finish, silvering/darkening case hardening, and clear markings. Grips are sound showing minor marks from military use and retain approx. 70% original varnish. Action is tight and crisp; bore is shiny with distinct rifling. Smooth russet leather holster is exceptional showing great color and a nice glossy finish, tight stitching, fine buckle and straps. The long-serving M1879 was used during the German colonial conflicts, the Boxer Rebellion, WWI and even into WWII. Est.: $1,500-$2,500. (Antique)
