Lot 11 Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army Perc. Revolver

Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver, #14296, .44 cal., 8'' round ''streamlined'' barrel marked ''-Address Col. Saml. Colt New-York U.S. America-'' in one line, 6-shot round rebated cylinder with rolled naval engagement scene, 4-screw frame and backstrap cut for attachable shoulder stock, brass triggerguard and steel backstrap, originally blued and case hardened finishes, with one-piece oil-finished walnut grips. Inspector marked "A" on cylinder and barrel, "H" on backstrap, and "J" on bottom of barrel. Mfg'd 1861. Condition is very good showing no original finish and a cleaned gunmetal gray color with scattered minor nicks; no cylinder scene remains but ''Colt's Patent 14296'' and ''Pat. Sept. 10th 1850'' lines are clear. Grips are very nice, sound and smooth and fit well; all visible serial numbers match (including wedge). Large ''US'' stamping on left frame appears to be later. Action is smooth and crisp, bore is fairly clean with sharp rifling. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
