''USN'' marked U.S. Model 1842 ''Navy'' Single Shot Percussion Pistol, by Ames, NVSN, .54 smoothbore cal., 6'' round barrel marked ''USN / 1845 / RP / P'' at breech, flush-mounted steel boxlock marked ''N.P. Ames / Springfield / Mass. at center and ''USN / 1845'' vertically at rear. Hinged steel stirrup-type captive ramrod, brass triggerguard and single barrel band; plain oil-finished walnut stock with circular flat brass buttcap. Condition is very good with a light age patina to metal parts and clear markings. Stock is sound, smooth and shows good color; a faint oval inspector's cartouche appears on left side; a row of small marks that seem to have been made with a punch is at left grip. Action is smooth and tight; bore appears clean. Est.: $750-$1,000. (Antique)
