Lot 977 19SAV-229 WESSON SINGLE SHOT

Wesson single shot plains rifle, approximately .42 caliber. The rifle is good condition with a 26 ½” octagon barrel. The barrel is brown patina with light surface rust and fine, pin prick pitting noted. The barrel flats are marked, “WESSON HARTFORD, CT CAST STEEL”. The receiver is nicely engraved and shows old plating turning patina. The rifle is missing the hammer assembly from the action. The rifle has beautiful old engraving at the tang and along the elaborate trigger guard. The smooth wood butt stock has fine figure and graining with a stylized inlaid patch box. The opposite side of the butt stock is missing the oval plate. The butt stock ends with a metal, crescent butt plate. The ramrod is missing. A scarce, rarely seen plains rifle in need of restoration. $400-$800. (Antique).
