Winchester Model 1876 .50 caliber special order 22” short rifle with round barrel, half magazine, set trigger, shotgun butt and ½” shorter than standard stock. Received in the warehouse Nov. 14, 1883 and shipped Nov. 15,1883 to order #8953. No British proofs and by tradition ordered for a bear gun Montana rancher. The left wrist shows 4 carved letters approximately ½” in height x 1 ½” which are “EXXX” and are similar to a brand.60%-80% original blue that is thinning and aging naturally with many scratches on the frame. Good crisp edges. 50%-70% case hardening on the hammer and lever. The wood is very good plus with minor aging. Goodsharp markings including “Winchester Express 50 cal 95 grains” on the dust cover. Proper style sling swivels not mentioned in letter. Good action and bright bore. (Antique) Est.: $8,000-$16,000
