Impressive and very early English brass cannon size rail or ships blunderbuss with “GR” cypher hand engraved and British proofs (George I) on the lock. Measures 44 ½” overall with a 28” barrel showing ringed andflared cannon style muzzle measuring almost 1 ¾” across the inner walls of the barrel. Total weight 20.5 pounds. Also marked “Tower” at the rear of the lock and “20” as rack or ships number. The barrel shows a great honeybrown patina as do the mounts. The steel shows a dark to gray natural patina with good markings. The stocks are good plus with minor dings but shows a large crack opening at the tang. We would date this gun about1700-1715.
