^Lot 588 Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Rifle

Springfield Armory Model 1873 Single Shot Trapdoor Rifle, #201799, .45-70 cal., 32'' barrel, blue finish, walnut two-band full-length stock, with two-piece standard front sight and 5th form buckhorn rear sight; ramrod is the second style. Marked ''US'' on buttplate; breechblock is marked ''U.S. Model 1873''. Condition is near excellent with most of the blue turning to an even grey/brown patina. Stock appears to have been re-oiled, cartouche ''SWP/1882'' is visible. ''P'' stock mark has been removed from behind the triggerguard. Action is tight, bore is bright and shows little evidence of firing, as evidenced by the good amount of case color remaining on the breech plug. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
