Colt SAA revolver, .45 caliber, 7.5” barrel, S/N 31816 (ca. 1876), matching visible numbers, “C” stamped frame with “JTC” inspection initials (John T. Cleveland), period nickel finish, period ivory grips, in overall very good condition showingapproximately 40% nickel finish with balance gone to a dark patina; crisp action, overall good bore, ivory grips show wear, age cracklature and an old loss to the left lower front corner of the grip. The “C” stamp usually denotes the U.S. militaryinspector condemned the gun for some reason related to their strict measurements and contract requirements; usually it did not indicate a substantive problem and Colt was not one to throw away good parts; hence the use of the frame in the creation of a commercially completed gun. (Antique). Est.: $6,000-$7,000.
