New York made Percussion Target Rifle, by E.W. Cook, Lockport, NY, #684, .40 cal., 28'' medium-weight barrel marked ''Cast Steel'', brown and case hardened finish, perchbelly walnut halfstock, with German silver patchbox to right side, period hooded tang peep sight, Rocky Mountain style front sight, with hand-inscribed sight index mark to top of barrel flat at beveled muzzle. Condition is very good. Barrel retains approx. 60%-70% of its original brown color. Case colors to trade lock have toned mostly silvery gray. Stock with light pressure dings and minor scuffs, one professionally accomplished repair to left side near breech plug. Hickory ramrod appears to be a later replacement. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
