U.S. Model 1879 Trapdoor Rifle, by Springfield, #144399, .45-70 cal., 26'' cutdown barrel, blue finish, case hardened breechblock dated 1884, shortened stock with 1891 cartouches, and regimental markings to top of comb ''F/53'', and to right side of stock ''71-635''. Condition is fine as modified. Top of stock wrist shows evidence of past tang type sight. Sling swivels have been added. Overall metal surfaces retain excellent original colors and rifle shows well.
