Winchester Hotchkiss 1st Model Carbine, #1044, .45-70 cal., 24'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish, lightly cartouched walnut stock, with ''VP/(eaglehead)'' proof to barrel, ''HN'' (Henry Nettleton) sub-inspector markings to small parts, and 1878 dated cartouche to left side of stock is faintly visible. Condition is very good to near fine. Barrel retains approx. 80% evenly thinning blue with light toning. Case hardened frame has toned a silvery gray. Stock with minor bruises, scratches, and a repaired fracture emanating from saddlering and terminating at left apex of upper tang. Action is crisp, bore is very good to fine. Est.: $2,250-$2,750.
