Rare Whitney Excelsior Single Shot Top-Loading Rifle, #74 to bottom of barrel and frame beneath forend, .38 RF cal., 28'' barrel, blue finish, walnut stock and forend. Mfg'd 1866-1870, with less than 200 total produced. Top of barrel marked ''Whitney Arms Co., Whitneyville, Conn.'' Condition is very good with moderate general overall patination. Frame has thinned to approx. 70% original finish. Stock with darkening and minor shrinkage. Action is good, bore is good with light general frosting throughout. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
