BSA MK III Snider Breechloading Rifle, NVSN, .577 cal., 36'' barrel marked ''Steel'', blue finish, ''(crown)/WD/Birmingham'' circular cartouche to right side cheek area of walnut stock, regimental markings to brass buttplate, ''III'' to chamber area. Originally introduced in Jan. 1869, this example is dated 1871 with all features consistent with the MK III, including the flat faced hammer. Ramrod, nipple cover, sling, bayonet and scabbard are present. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 96% original lightly toning blue surfaces. Case hardened areas have lightened and silvered somewhat. Stock with minor scuffs. Crisp action, bright bore. Seldom seen in this high condition. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
