These hanging show globes have also been called 'Apothecary Globe Chandeliers' or simply 'Show Globes'. An amazing piece of history, used to designate an alchemist or pharmacist, they were used in various ways. Some theories for their use is that they were illuminated, or brightly colored liquid or potions were once placed in them to designate that treatment was available, to let travelers know if there was a plague in town (red liquid), or to show direction for sailors, etc... Glass and metal construction, very good condition. Great display piece.
