The M1 Garand Rifle was “A Soldier's Best Friend.” The story of this rifle: it was issued to, loved by, hated by, carried by young soldiers who were far from home and loved ones, doing a job they most likely would rather not be doing, in a place they would most likely rather not be. This one was made in the latter part of WWII at the Springfield Armory plant, now a National Historic Site in Massachusetts. General George S. Patton called the M1 Garand “the greatest battle implement ever devised.” This rifle almost certainly did two tours of duty, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. It slept next to a soldier on the ground or in a tent if it was lucky, heard jokes told while being cleaned, and bullshit sessions while chow was eaten next to it from a metal field kit. It's been rained on, snowed on, been hot in the sun and hot from firing. It should be wearing a blue hat that says "Veteran" and tottering around a VA hospital, or better yet bellied up to the bar at the VFW where younger M16s and M4s buy it drinks and listen to its stories. This is a piece of American history in .30-06 caliber. Included with this rifle are a genuine WWII bayonet dated 1943 and two 8-round clips. This rifle is donated in memory of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Leon Rimkus, Jr., 943rd FABn, who served from 1940 through 1945. Kap River Outfitters has donated a black bear hunt for one hunter hosted at  their lodge in Kapuskasing, Ontario, valid for the 2024-2025 season. Fall hunt Aug 15-Oct 1, Spring hunt May 10-June 15. Kap River has a bear management  area covering over 3500 square kilometers. The average bear is 200-300 lbs., but 400-500 lb. bruins are possible. Color phase bears are also fairly common. Over 90% kill opportunity includes: Lodging and guides. Not included: Required license aprox $350 are available locally upon arrival, required firearm permits. Transportation to and from the hunting area ia the responsibility of the hunter. The winning bidder is encouraged to bring other guests to share in this great experience. This is an extremely unique custom knife. Where have you ever seen a knife made with crocodile hide? Arno Bernard is a South African knife maker who creates high-quality professional hunting and folding knives with exotic handle materials. He has created a method to stabilize and harden crocodile hide for use on custom knives. He uses Bohler N690 steel from Austria with a Rockwell hardness of 59-60Rc. The tapered full-tang blade makes this knife exceptionally strong for field work. It would also be an excellent EDC knife! The distinctive scales (knife handles) of croc hide and classic blade design make this a great knife for collectors. As Arno Bernard says, “Tough enough to use, nice enough to collect.” The blade length is 3.75 inches and the overall length is 7.25 inches.
