Alberta Minister’s Special License – Elk
Sportsmen for Fish & Wildlife Kevin Norman (435) 770-5978 kevin@sfw.net SFW is a 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable organization. There’s never been a better time than today to hunt elk in Alberta. Once confined to the mountains and foothills, elk are growing in numbers and expanding their distribution. These days, thriving elk populations can be found from the Peace River valley in the north to central Alberta’s parkland and mixedwood forests, to the rolling prairie grasslands of the south. The Minister’s Special License (MSL) gives the lucky winning bidder an outstanding opportunity to take an elk that will be the envy of any North American jurisdiction. Consider that in 2020, Shawn O’Shea harvested an Alberta non-typical elk with his bow that scored a mind-boggling 449 ½ inches! Pope and Young has recognized this as the largest bow-harvested non-typical American elk ever taken. Several other Alberta elk, both non-typical and typical, have been harvested that scored in excess of 400 inches—the next could be yours. With recent improvements to the Alberta MSL program, this premier opportunity is not to be missed. Changes to the program include the expansion to year-round hunting and the use of your weapon-of-choice (in compliance with Alberta’s provincial hunting regulations.) Cockrell Alpine, TX 79830 (432) 837-0666 ext.227 (Froylan) ext. 229 (Mark) www.tpwd.texas.gov froylan.hernandez@tpwd.texas.gov The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is proud to announce the donation of one Desert Bighorn Sheep Permit to the Western Hunting and Conservation Expo for auction to the highest bidder at the 2023 EXPO in Salt Lake City, Utah. Restoration of desert bighorn sheep in Texas has been an ongoing project since the 1950s. Through the cooperative efforts of many conservation partners, including the Mule Deer Foundation, private landowners and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, we have successfully restored desert bighorns in Texas to the population levels of the late 1800s. The permit provides the opportunity for one lucky winner to hunt for one desert bighorn ram in the beautiful mountains of West Texas on one of the following State of Texas Wildlife Management Areas: Elephant Mountain, Sierra Diablo, or Black Gap. Based on recent increases in bighorn and permit numbers in Texas, the hunt will most likely occur between September 1, 2023 and July 31, 2024. All hunts are fully guided by TPWD personnel. The hunt will be for 10 days or until a ram is taken, whichever comes first. TPWD will provide lodging, meals and on-site transportation. ITEMSThe hunter is required to possess a valid Texas hunting license (approximately $315 for a non-resident). Proceeds from the sale of this permit will go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Desert Bighorn Sheep Program and used exclusively for desert bighorn restoration and management in Texas. Proceeds from past hunts have paid for the restoration of desert bighorns into sheep habitat which has been void of bighorns for over 50 years. Your support is very much appreciated!
