Nevada has 314 mountain ranges, more than any other lower 48 state, and more desert bighorn sheep than any other jurisdiction in North America. This vast and rugged canvas of both the Mojave and Great Basin deserts are naturally suited to harbor wild sheep. Through the vision of wildlife biologists and passionate support from sportsmen, bighorn sheep restoration efforts have helped increase Nevada’s desert bighorn population from its low of 2,500 in 1960 to over 8,000! Though total bighorn numbers have been depressed in recent years, there still are plenty of great rams to hunt. The most recent harvest data from the 2021 season was 288 rams harvested with 18 rams 170+ B&C from 11 different hunt units. At least 2 rams scoring 180 B&C were taken in 2021.
