The North Rim Experience: A Vacation and Bison Hunt of Historic Significance
Arizona Game & Fish Department Pheasants Forever/Quail Forever 5000 W. Carefree Highway Al Eiden Phoenix, AZ 85086 1783 Buerkle Circle www.azgfd.com St. Paul, MN 55110 (623) 236-7349 aeiden@pheasantsforever.org Bring a friend and hunt the iconic Bison at one of 3 free ranging bison herds in the lower 48 states (the House Rock Herd). You will hunt bison on the North Kaibab National Forest, which was originally protected by President Theodore Roosevelt as the first big game preserve to protect the mule deer herd that lives on the Kaibab Plateau. While you are hunting, your spouse and/or friends can enjoy the natural beauty of the Grand Canyon, take in the educational activities hosted by the Park Service, learn about the history of the area, and even hike to the Colorado River if you want. The Grand Canyon lodge is listed as a landmark on the National Historic Register and offers restaurants, shopping, and of course views of one of the seven natural wonders of the world. If you are not successful on your hunt on the Kaibab, you will get a second chance at your bison on the Raymond WMA. This hunt is a little more controlled, but the likelihood of you getting your bison is nearly 100% as the AZ Game and Fish Department staff at the WMA will assist you in finding bison on the WMA. What is included: A once in a lifetime bison tag good for a calendar year and is valid for hunting either of the two bison herds in Arizona. The House Rock herd lives on the north rim of the Grand Canyon National Park and the North Kaibab National Forest. This would be the first bison herd you will be hunting. If you are not successful you will hunt the Raymond WMA herd, which is a high success hunt where the population is located about 40 miles southeast of historic Flagstaff, AZ. 6 Nights stay in an historic cabin (sleeps up to 6 people) located at the Grand Canyon Lodge at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, and to close out your experience you have 2 nights stay in downtown Flagstaff. Assisting you and your companion on your Arizona adventure will be the West Region Director for PF/QF who lives in Arizona. He will provide you with recommendations on a guide if you choose to use a guide. If you want the do it yourself experience he will help you plan your hunt to time your hunt to ensure you are the only person hunting bison while you are in Arizona, recommendations on how to hunt this bison herd, and provide some insight on spots to find your bison. He will also provide your guests with recommendations on hikes, day trips, and coordinate with AZ Game and Fish on your behalf if you decide to hunt the Raymond Ranch herd after your North Rim Experience.

2020 Alaska Unimak Island Brown Bear Drawing Permit for One (1) Hunter
Alaska Department of Game & Fish Contact: Dave Crowley - GMU 9 and 10 Area Biologist, King Salmon/ Tim Spivey- Permitting Biologist PO Box 37 King Salmon, AK 99613 www.hunt.alaska.gov dave.crowley@alaska.gov dfg.dwc.permits@alaska.gov (907) 246-3340 (907) 465-4148 If you are the lucky buyer of this permit, you are one of the few hunters to possess a brown bear drawing permit for Unimak Island in Game Management Unit 10. Unimak Island is as far west as brown bears (and several other species including, wolf and wolverine) can be found. The management objective for brown bear hunting on Unimak Island is to keep hunter numbers low to ensure a high quality wilderness experience with a reasonable chance for selective hunting. A non-resident locking tag for wolves is not required. Land along the eastern shore of the island is owned by the Isanotski Native Corporation, and permission for hunting on this private land should be sought from the Corporation. The rest of Unimak Island is federal land open to public hunting and managed as wilderness by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. You are required to check in (in person or by phone) with Izembek National Wildlife Refuge headquarters in Cold Bay (P.O.Box 127, Cold Bay, AK 99571; Ph. (907) 532-2445). They can provide more detailed information on the island, allowable means of access, etc. There are no public use cabins on Unimak, and the extreme weather (high winds, rain, and cool temperatures) requires the best of camping equipment and clothing. If you get a bear, it can be sealed by the refuge staff in Cold Bay, or elsewhere in the state. Hunt Number: DB375 (fall) or DB376 (spring) Species: Brown Bear Legal Animal: One (1) bear, preferably male, (the taking of a sow with cubs is prohibited) GMU, Area: 10, Unimak Island Hunting Conditions: 1) PERMIT: The DB375 or DB376 permit shall be in the possession of the permittee while hunting or transporting a brown bear and shall be exhibited to any person authorized to enforce state and federal laws who requests to see it. The permit is NON-TRANSFERABLE. Nonresidents are required to hunt with a guide or resident family member within the second degree of kindred. A locking tag is required. 2) WHEN: Fall: October 1 – December 31, 2020. Spring May 10 – May 31, 2021 3) WHERE: Unimak Island 4) BAG LIMIT: One (1) brown bear. Either sex is legal, but harvesting males is encouraged. The taking of sows with cub(s) is prohibited in Alaska. If you have killed a brown bear anywhere in Alaska during the current regulatory year, this permit is invalid. 5) REPORTING: SUCCESSFUL hunters: Successful hunters are required to salvage the hide intact, with evidence of sex and claws attached, and skull. Hides and skulls must be sealed by ADF&G, approved expeditor, or USFWS in Cold Bay at the end of your hunt.. UNSUCCESSFUL hunters or permittees who DID NOT HUNT: Report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov by phone to 246-3324, or bring the completed harvest report to an ADFG office 15 days of the close of the season. 6) PENALTY FOR FAILURE TO REPORT: If you fail to report, you will not be eligible to receive any permits (drawing, tier II, or registration) during the next regulatory year. In addition, your name will be turned over to the Alaska Wildlife Troopers for enforcement action. Offered by the Mule Deer Foundation. MDF is a 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable organization.
