Presenting the 2020 Houston Safari Club Foundation President's Rifle: The Rigby Big Game Deluxe DSB .375 H& H! John Rigby & Co. has rejoined forces with its old German partner, Mauser, to create this modern masterpiece. A century and more ago, Mauser made barreled bolt-actions for us and shipped them to London, where they were assembled, finished and proofed by Rigby craftsmen. Today, in an echo of halcyon days before the Great War, they have resumed this arrangement for their new range of range of Big Game rifles. Features a Magnum bolt action, originally created in 1899 specifically for John Rigby. Today, just as was done a century ago, barreled actions are supplied by Mauser, then assembled into superb hand-finished rifles by master craftsmen at the Rigby workshop in London. Like the originals, these rifles carry London proof marks. Many aspects of the original rifle, including the much admired and copied extractor and the three-position flag safety, have been retained. Classic Rigby design features, plus a robust, ergonomic stock shape with a higher comb for better fit and absorption of recoil. Features a plasma nitriding on all exposed metal surfaces for a tough but attractive anti-glare and rust-resistant finish. The Rigby express sights have a single fixed V and two folding leaves (sighted for 65, 150 and 250 yards) dovetailed into the quarter-rib. With original pattern engraving, case-hardened recoil bars and a heat-blued extractor, these rifles represent exceptional value and are a benchmark in modern sporting firearms manufacturing. Also features a Double Square Bridge action with a weight of 10 pounds, unloaded, and the length of pull, including the red rubber recoil pad, is 14½”. This rifle is crowned with a Swarovski illuminated Z8i 1-8x24 L rifle scope which provides a remarkable field of view of 42.5 m (127.5 ft) with a 1x magnification, offering the best possible overview of the hunting action to ensure the right decision is made even in rapidly changing situations. The rifle is paired with a Rigby Custom canvas leather case with a custom brass plate hand engraved, in the case. Artist Leon Fouche has donated "Black-Collared Barbet", a 18" x 12" original soft pastel. This barbet is one of southern Africa's most colorful birds. They can often be seen feeding on the brightly colored fruit of Africa's fig trees. Sporting International, Warrick Evans of Mapassa Big Game Hounds Hunting, & Pete Stewart of Good Manners Dog Obedience School are happy to donate this Jack Russell Terrier puppy from Warwick Evans of Mapassa Big Game Hounds Hunting of South Africa. The puppy is from a prodigious lineage of Jack Russells bred over 40 years for the hunting and tracking of leopard, lion, caracal, jackal and wounded game. Warwick has bred these dogs to have a fearless, disciplined attitude with an insatiable drive to trail and spot cats and blood trailing of wounded animals. They have a sweet and loveable demeanor which makes them great as family pets as well as hunting dogs. The puppy will receive several months of intensive obedience training from Pete Stewart of Good Manners Dog Obedience School. Pete trained all of our prior convention auction puppies and many for HSCF members. For the past 10 years the puppies have sold at the HSCF conventions at an average of $6,000-$8,000.
