24th Annual Fundraiser SCI Calgary Chapter

* 3rd Update* Alberta - SHORT NOTICE SUITCASE SPECIAL!! Resident Spring Trophy Black Bear Hunt
*** 3rd Update from Mike *** The official hunt is going to have be pushed to June 11-15. We still have a lot of snow and more is on the way now. We can’t get into almost all of our bait sites. There’s no way I can have things set up before April 26. I can work with the buyer to get them in to do some hunting in May on the weekends if they want to try it before June 11 too. I’ll only have them on big bears. June 11-15 is a great time, small bears are rubbed up but not the big boys, they stay good and the breeding is in full swing. It will be a good hunt. Sorry, I hope that doesn’t mess with anything. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** 2nd Update ** Mike just sent this. "We got a freak storm that gave us a huge dump of heavy, wet snow, 2 feet or more and now it is –3C and snowing." The date is back now to be uncertain. We update again when we know more. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * UPDATE * Mike has confirmed that the hunt will be for April 26 -30th. Here are his words. "It will be going on in April for sure. Snow is almost all gone, a few bears out already, early spring." Bidders, keep in mind, that the fur will be prime, as the bears won't have rubbed this early in the season! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mike Ukrainetz of Mike’s Outfitting has generously donated a spring time Alberta resident Trophy Black Bear hunt for spring 2017 for two hunters. The funds from this auction item are targeted specifically for the United Hunters Fund (http://unitedhuntersfund.com). Mike has been guiding bear hunts in this area for 25 years, perfecting his Quality Bear Management System, which results in the last 5 years being some of his best for taking giant, old boars, huge bodied ones with record book skulls. This isn't your average baited bear hunt. It is a true Trophy bear hunt where you will have an excellent chance to take a big 7 plus foot boar. It might even be a giant colored bear. The hunts are done from wooden ground blinds where you will have exciting but safe encounters with the bears at a distance of less than 20 yards, perfect for bow hunting. Even though there is a trail camera at every bait site, it is not a slam dunk hunt. The mature boars are smart and hit the baits at random times. You need to be able to dedicate yourself to the hunt for 5 full days of hunting every evening for about 6 hours, and when that giant boar walks in, it is an excitement second to none! The donation includes 5 days of hunting, using rifle or bow for two hunters, and includes one trophy black bear each. The donation also includes lodging, food, guides and field trophy handling. You will be responsible for your transportation to and from their lodge, your Alberta resident hunting license and black bear tag, before and after trip expenses, cancellation insurance, all taxidermy/meat processing and gratuities. Mike is not providing the tags. The hunt is scheduled only for April 26 – 30th, 2017, which is the best time to take a huge boar, just when they come out of their dens, and as long as the weather cooperates. The successful bidder may be going hunting the week following the auction. If the weather is too cold and snowy, the trip will be delayed to June 11 – 15th, 2017 only, which is the 2nd best hunting time being in the peak of the breeding season when big old boars are looking for hot sows. Mike will be making the call several days before the auction to give an update on the weather conditions and the outlook for the hunt. We will update the hunt information at that time and so please check back for updates. If both dates work for you, please start to bid online now. For more information, please contact Mike at (780)-864-3770 info@mikesoutfitting.com http://www.mikesoutfitting.com/contact.html

The breathtaking natural scenery, including waterfalls cascading from the cliff sides and acres of virgin forest, makes these rivers a hidden gem for outdoor adventurers and fly fishers. The naturally occurring fish species in these river systems are a testament to government conservation efforts, as well as other government funded projects such as Trout Unlimited Canada and Our Wild Alberta. Our operations support and extend these conservation efforts, and our tours will always focus on treating our surroundings with the utmost respect and care, ensuring very low environmental disturbance. It consists of six full days of hunting, one full day of deep sea fishing, and three full days of touring the Garden Route from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town for a total of 11 days and 12 nights. It consists of everything from pickup at Port Elizabeth to spending the last night in Cape Town. Being close enough to the coast, the hunting schedule could be adjusted while there to take account of the weather. Included in the day count is a day to transfer between the hunting lodge and the fishing area. It excludes air travel from North America to Port Elizabeth and return from Cape Town, taxidermy costs, export of trophies to North America, and staff gratuities. There is also lots of plains game that can be added to the trip. Royal Karoo Safaris is situated in the mountain country of the Eastern Cape where the Great Karoo meets Valley Bushveld, resulting in the highest population density of Eastern Cape kudu in South Africa and so offering excellent walk and stalk hunting in this challenging setting. A wide variety of Plains and Bushveld game species are offered in their natural habitat with the region being rated as having the best kudu hunting in Africa. Alberta is blessed with an abundance of natural resources, including land, energy and forest resources, which have formed the foundation of this province's thriving economy. Alberta has the highest employment rate of all Canadian provinces. It is recovering well from the global recession and is poised for strong economic growth in the next few years. With over 100,000 registered resident hunters in Alberta, it is clear that hunting runs deep within the outdoor culture of this province. However, many of these passionate sportsmen and women assume that a safari across the Atlantic would be outside of their means, a perception that we are changing by showcasing Africa’s and the rest of the world’s affordable hunting destinations. Bringing the international hunting and fishing community to Calgary allows these men and women the opportunity to meet outfitters face to face, on their home soil, in a relaxed environment. This provides the ideal platform to discuss the many hunting and fishing opportunities the globe has to offer, without the travel and expense of visiting a large show across the border. richard@africanhuntinggazette.com www.africanhuntinggazette.com http://www.africanhuntingevents.ca

Calgary – Original Artwork by Stefanna Spoletini
A native to Calgary, Stefanna Spoletini has been active in the community throughout her life and is currently studying under Canadian artist, Loretta Secord. From a young age Stefanna has always excelled at sports and has applied the same amount of drive and dedication into everything she takes on. After graduating from Arizona State University with an undergraduate degree in Recreational Therapy, Stefanna moved back to Calgary to pursue her career and was eager to get involved and help others. After tirelessly looking for jobs in her field, Stefanna decided to switch gears and take on something a little different; she always knew she was creative but was unsure on how to channel it. She began attending art classes and with the help of Loretta, she slowly but surely is finding her voice – on the canvas. With each of Stefanna’s pieces varying in style, she has yet to adhere to a specific style and is determined to make each of her pieces original and authentic. Inspired by her strong connection to animals, Stefanna has become passionate about incorporating them in her pieces along with vibrant colours, and has gained interest in their juxtaposition. Stefanna is excited to grow as an artist and hopes to expand her knowledge and emerge herself in the wonderful world of art. This art piece is oil on canvas. The approximate size is 30 by 40". SCI Calgary thanks Stefanna for her generous donation of this original art piece. You can contact Stefanna at 403-891-4114 or by email at Stefanna.spoletini@gmail.com.
