This Marlin Model 1895SBL, 45-70 has a six-round capacity with a full-length tubular magazine. It has an 18 /2” stainless steel barrel and a black and grey laminated hardwood pistol-grip stock with fluted comb and cut checkering. They’ve added a deluxe recoil pad, nickel-plated swivel studs and Scout scope mounts. This is no ordinary coffee table, but a finely crafted piece of furniture made out of incredibly rare wood. The table was made from a log of white pine that has been sitting at the bottom of Lake Superior since the late 1880s. The tree is estimated to have been more than 125 years old at the time it was logged. The value of these Lake Superior sunken logs is staggering, making this table not only an amazing conversation piece, but of great value. Because these logs have existed for more than 100 years at large depths and in very cold water, they have been preserved almost to perfection. Not only that, but the wood takes on beautiful streaks of color from the sediment that has worked into the soft pine. This beautiful set of Winchester Model 1895s pays tribute to the 100th Anniversary, Safari Centennial (1909-2009), of President Theodore Roosevelt’s Grand African Safari. Theodore Roosevelt referred to the Model 1895 in .405 Winchester as his “Big Medicine” for African lion. The set of .405 rifles includes a Model 1895 Custom Grade and a Model 1895 High Grade. The 1895 Custom Grade has goldtone embellishments of African big game animals on a blued receiver plus gold appointments on the lever and muzzle and features a Grade III/IV walnut stock with fine-cut checkering on the butt stock and forearm. The 1895 High Grade rifle has gold tone embellishments of African big game animals on a silver nitride receiver and has a Grade II/III walnut stock with checkering. Both rifles sport Roosevelt’s signature on the lever, a buckhorn rear sight and a marble, gold-bead, front sight. The receivers are drilled and tapped for scope mounting, have 24” barrels and are both 42” in length. Each rifle weighs eight pounds. Andy Thomas, known as “the storyteller,” was inspired to paint this piece after reading a letter written in 1914 by the artist, Joe DeYoung (1894-1975) who had just visited his mentor, Charles Russell, in the summer of 1914 and described the scene in Russell’s studio and the paintings he saw. Featured are Russell’s When the Land Belonged to God, The Slick Ear, Whiskey Smugglers Caught with the Goods, The Bell Mare, At Rope’s End, Whose Meat? and One of the Rough String. The painting on the floor in the lower right is Jumped. The original painting of this print sold at the CM Russell Art Auction in 2013 for $200,000. This exquisite, custom made set of revolvers was generously donated by George (Chip) Stark. George had the set custom made specifically for the 2014 Elk Camp by Hawk’s Gunsmithing in Anchorage, Alaska. Andy Hawk started with a Ruger Super Black Hawk Bisley Hunter, fitting it with a 5½-inch octagon barrel. He crafted the grips out of beautiful Dall sheep horn he found in the Brooks Range Mountains of northern Alaska. Andy added a number of aftermarket upgrades such as an Elmer Keith #5 oversized base pin and a Hamilton Bowen Rough Country rear sight. The front sight bases are machined from scratch and dovetailed to accept New England Custom Gun patridge front sight blades.
