BRONZE SCULPTURE “PUTTING SHEEP ON THE MOUNTAIN
Donation: The bronze sculpture “Putting Sheep on the Mountain” is Rick Taylor’s personal tribute to his friend, the late Dr. Jerry Waite. It was donated and auctioned for the first time at the 2011 “Sheep Show” and purchased by Bernie and JoAnn Fiedeldey. By purchasing this item you are joining Bernie and JoAnn in truly trying to put more sheep on the mountain. Dr Waite wasn’t just a member and past president of FNAWS--Doc was FNAWS. He epitomized everything FNAWS stood for. He coined the phrase “Putting Sheep on the Mountain” and gave everything of himself to make National and the Iowa Chapter successful, even if it meant doing the work from a wheelchair. Doc was your “down to earth” charter member of the organization who knew that a buck earned here and a buck earned there made dollars for the wild sheep. Dr Waite was the recipient of the “Presidential Award” in 2000. As he wheeled his wheelchair toward the podium, we looked at a man who had given his heart and soul to the organization he loved. The money raised by the auction of the annual sponsorship of this project will be split between a pet project of the “Biologist of the Year” and other “on the ground” projects. The sponsor(s) will be featured on the sculpture which will be on public display at the WSF headquarters in Cody, Wyoming. It will also be on display at the annual convention. Rick Taylor made a second sculpture entitled “Free at Last” depicting the lamb as it is being released and is jumping for joy. Each annual sponsor will take one of these home with a personalized engraved tag.

Wyoming Governor Matt Mead, the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission & Department, and the North American Moose Foundation (via the Wyoming Governor’s Big Game License Coalition) are pleased to provide the Wild Sheep Foundation with a 2013 Shiras moose license for auction. The 2013 Wyoming Governor’s Moose License is only valid in open hunt areas with greater than 10 antlered or any moose licenses issued. For 2012 this license was valid in 12 hunt areas: 1, 5, 10, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, and 38/41. These hunt areas account for over 70% of Wyoming’s annual Shiras moose harvest. The number of licenses issued per hunt area MAY change from year to year. Seasons and license numbers for fall 2013 will be finalized in April 2013.
Successful purchaser may hunt any open hunt area that qualifies in accordance with the above. The purchaser does not have to pick a specific hunt area and may hunt different hunt areas. The five-year waiting period between moose licenses does not affect the ability to purchase a Governor’s moose license, and purchasing this license is independent of applying for a moose license through the draw system. The license fee (either Resident or Non-Resident) is waived. Preference points are not affected by purchase of a Wyoming Governor’s Moose License. 90% of the auction proceeds provide funding for Wyoming moose projects via the Wyoming Governor’s Big Game License Coalition.

Carmen Island is a privately owned, 60 square mile island in the Gulf of California, near Loreto, Baja California Sur. In 1995 a number of wild sheep were captured and placed upon the island. That same year, Carmen Island was designated as a preserve to provide a protected environment for the O. c. weemsi sub-species of desert bighorn sheep. In 1995 and 1996, 22 ewes and four rams were successfully released on the island. This was a propagation project to place the animals in a protected area with no predators and an anti-poaching program. It has worked quite well. A recent survey of bighorn sheep on the island estimated over 500 animals. This program has been so effective, that sheep have been captured and transferred from the island for release on the peninsula; almost 100 sheep have been released. One permit will be available. After years of a well planed management program, high quality rams have been harvested with an impressive record of 100% success with rifle and bow hunters.
A 5% buyers premium will be added to the final bid price of each special permit sold, unless prohibited by statute. Proceeds will be dedicated to WSF Conservation Initiatives.
