Early Colored Ortega Quirt; Luis Ortega Quirt was purchased directly from the 87 year old original owner who purchased it directly from Luis at the beginning of his career in Santa Barbara, Calif. Luis got his start in the selling of his braided rawhide pieces in the studio of Edward Borein, famed western artist. Luis was able to do his rawhide in the studio in El Paseo so Borein could go home and paint. This is one of very few early Ortega works discovered and is while not perfect, shows the type of cowboy wear one would expect from a piece this old and historic.

Edgar S. Paxson Watercolor Painting
Important Edgar S. Paxson 1915 Watercolor on paper. Plains buffalo portrait entitled "Last of the Herd" 14 1/2" x 20 1/2" ES Paxson (1852- 1915) Born Edgar Samual Paxson, in New York in 1852. After school he assisted his father in the business as a sign painter and decorator. Paxson was always fascinated by the frontier life and had a great longing to see the West, so in 1877 he pulled up his roots and moved to the Montana Territory. There he became employed on ranches, learning the tricks of surviving the ranges variable weather and occasional Indian conflicts. Through his rustic journey West, his ranch work, and his experiences as a scout in the Nez Perce war of 1877-1878, Paxson truly lived the Wild West that has been portrayed in literature, movies, and television throughout the last century. His experiences became the inspiration and the subjects for his work, from small sketches in his journal to monumental murals.

Teddy Roosevelt's Engraved Winchester 1873 Rifle
Teddy Roosevelt's Personal Engraved 1873 Winchester Rifle; chambered in 38-40, octagon barrel, stylishly engraved with scroll centered around a cowboy roping a longhorn steer, along with a "TR" engraved on the bottom side of the frame. It is in nice original condition showing a thinning original blue fading to plumb, light colored wood and smooth functioning action. This rifle is the second of two in a set. Lucille Mulhall, "America's first cowgirl", and performer in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, owned the twin to this rifle. It had been given to her as a gift by President Roosevelt along with a presentation saddle from his "Rough Riders". She had a rifle made to match hers and then presented it to Teddy as a gift. Her matching rifle and the inscribed silver mounted saddle belonging to Teddy was handed down to Lucille's niece, Ann Mulhall Robinson, and has been owned by the family until recently. Lucille and Teddy had a very close friendship which is well documented and talked about in many books such as "The Wild West" by Don Russell. An opportunity to own a piece of history owned by one of history's most important cowboys.

Joe Beeler 1931- 2006 A founding member of Cowboy Artists of America, longtime Sedona resident, Joe Beeler has earned his place in the vanguard of contemporary Western art with one-man exhibitions at virtually every major Western art museum. A self confessed romantic, Joe strived to go beyond technique, conveying feeling and mood in both his painting and sculpture. Mr. Beeler died in 2006, at the age of 74. A true cowboy, he died in the saddle while working on a ranch with friends, branding calves. Joe was a pioneer in the field of western art for more than four decades. Born in Joplin, Missouri and raised in Oklahoma, he grew up in a family atmosphere rich in pioneer heritage and western individualism. His extensive body of work, including sculpture, oil paintings, watercolors and pen and ink drawings all shine with the wonder of Western life. Joe received numerous awards throughout his career and exhibited at many of the countries' most prestigious art venues.

Will James Bucking Horse Print
Will James--T'Hell with the Reins-print after an original drawing by Will James. This image first appeared over the fireplace in the Ranchero Room of El Paseo in Santa Barbara, Calif. This room was decorated with original works by such artists as Edward Borein, Joe de Yong, Frank Tenney Johnson and Will James. The ink drawing, titled "T'Hell with the Reins", was drawn over the fireplace in this famed room. Over the many years since this historic piece was done in 1936--the room has been used for offices and all historic art was "painted over many times". In 2008, the Trust for Historic Preservation undertook the restoration taking 4yrs. for Patty West and Cindy Golson to not only remove 4 coats of paint but totally restore this art treasure to its former glory. This print is one of few ever seen of this image. Custom Framed.
